Duties and responsibilities

  • Teaching, using modern teaching methods and educational technology, at all levels of higher education.
  • Supervising students (primarily master’s and doctoral students).
  • Activities related to the administration and development of teaching.
  • Teaching development.
  • Professional development to enhance teaching and supervising skills.
  • High-level RDC activities, incl. securing the resources necessary for RDC activities, performing contracts related to RDC activities and taking responsibility for its effectiveness.
  • International-level research in the volume equivalent to at least one doctoral thesis in five years. If RDC activities make up 70% or more of the work duties, international-level research in the volume equivalent to at least two doctoral theses is expected in five years. This information is based on the workload of 1.0.
  • Supervision of academic staff members involved in RDC activities.
  • Participation in the activities of Estonian and international research organisations and professional societies and in the work of editorial boards of recognised international research journals, organising international conferences, participation in Estonian and international expert groups and committees.
  • Participation in the development and organisation of terminology of the specialisation.
  • Development of skills necessary for RDC activities, and professional development.
  • Activities related to the governance and institutional development of the university, incl. advisably, participation in the work of academic and administrative decision-making bodies; advisably, performing at least one management function at the university; professional development to enhance management skills.
  • Social and public activities, incl. popularising their specialisation; participation in activities related to the promotion and application of their specialisation on a national or international level.

Required qualifications
PhD or an equivalent qualification.

Required experience

  • Ability to organise teaching and teach at all levels of higher education.
  • Previous teaching experience at least at the first two levels of higher education, incl. effective supervision of master’s or doctoral students.
  • Experience in compiling teaching aids and materials for institutions of higher education.
  • Knowledge of modern teaching aids, learning environments, teaching methods and their development opportunities.
  • Ability to direct a research theme and supervise academic staff within the research theme.
  • International-level research in the specialisation, the volume of which is equivalent to at least two doctoral theses.
  • Ongoing active engagement in research: international-level research in the past five years in the volume equivalent to at least one doctoral thesis.
  • Success in applying for research funding and performing contracts related to research, development and creative activities (‘RDC activities’) in the past five years.
  • International experience.
  • Participation in the work of the international community of the specialisation, incl. participation in the work of professional societies or in international RDC projects, work in the editorial boards of research publications or as a reviewer, work as an expert in foreign institutions (e.g. evaluating academic staff or allocating research grants), organising international research conferences.
  • Advisably, experience in the application and popularisation of theoretical knowledge, e.g. participation in applied research and conducting analyses, participation in creating innovative solutions, creating know-how with commercial potential, patent authorship.
  • Experience in team or project management.
  • Participation in activities related to the promotion and application of the specialisation on an institutional, national or international level.

Required language skills
Very good knowledge of Estonian in speech and writing. The candidate’s English skills must be sufficient for communication and writing in his or her speciality.

  5. A statement not exceeding 1500 words of the aims to be achieved during the term in the position, and the outline of an action plan for achieving these.
