I just got my buggy running, when either axle gets in a bind it seems like the ring and pinion are sepperating under load, it makes a grinding clicking noise. Is this common and if so how do you fix it????

That's what I would assume, but how much punishment have your axles taken? The gears have to be pretty worn out to slip in the diffs. Might just be a mesh problem with the pinion and spur...

Tear into the axle. Check the diff housing screws, they may have come loose.

Jeff check the lash on the ring gear and pin gear mine did the same thing i use really thin washers to push the pin gear closer to the ring gear . fixed it for me . make sure your bearings or bushing are seated right also .

I had this happen with mine and it made popping sounds. I'd check this first!

You know, I've heard that clicking noise before and when I got my tranny built up with a motor and spur/pinion on there, I noticed the nut that holds the pinion on would barely hit the spur gear on every rotation. I'm sure that would cause quite a racket. Check the clearances between those 2 and report back

I had the same "clicking" coming from my SW2 build. I was just testing out electronics in the living room, it'd never been outside. I tore it apart and found the pinion wasn't fitting tight against the ring gear. All bearings were seated and screws were tight on the axle housing. I dug through the bags of tlt hardware and used some washers and maybe a bearing to shim the pinion tight against the ring gear. Problem solved.

Glad you figured it out, because that was going to be my suggestion, a friend of mine just did the same thing! I was like what the hell is that noise! He told me it was normal... Glad you were man enough to admit it hehe.

Im having the same exact problem, so I tore the rear axle apart and checked some thing that were sugested, heres what I came up with.
I have no room for a washer inbetween the pinion and bearing to push the pinion closer to the ring gear(the mesh is pretty tight).
My axle screws were tighned down good with thread lock.
I thought maybie the wheel hubs and rims were slipping so I checked there and it doesnt look like it was.
Oh and both front and rear are locked with jb weld!!
Anyone have any ideas?

trust me, there's enough play there to get a very thin washer in. my axles where grinding and clicking like that, and when i took them apart, i didn't think there was enough room there either.
when i fixed my axles, i went to the hardware store, and picked through basically a whole drawer of 5mm washers to find a few nice thin ones.
put the washers on my pinions, and viola, no more grinding and clicking...

Well when I took the axles apart, I put a pretty thin washer in there (.045") and it pulled the pinion in so much I couldnt get the c-clip on the back side of the bearing.... I guess Ill try some thinner ones tomorrow!
