1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 A4 The Reporter, Monday, April 22, 2013 OBITUARIES www.fdlreporter.com Steffes, Sylvin J. Sylvin J. Steffes, age 76, of rural St. Cloud "St. died Sunday, April 21, 2013, at the Villa Loretto Nursing Home in Mount Calvary following a battle with cancer.

He was born May 18. 1936 in the Town of Marshfield in the St. Joe area to the late Leo Katherine (Morgen) Steffes. Sylvin attended St. Joseph Catholic Grades School and graduated from New Holstein High School in 1954.

He served in the Army National Guard 127 Infantry 32nd Division from 1954 to 1962 serving active duty at Fort Lewis in Tacoma, Washington from 1961 to 1962. He had worked at the Kohler Company for 43 years as a laser machine operator and also in the generator division. He retired from Kohler in 2000. In his retirement, Sylvin worked at Personal Touch Flowers Gifts in Fond du Lac with various remodeling projects and other odd jobs. He also spent many hours working on various wood working projects.

Sylvin shared' a lake home for over 33 years with his longtime friend, Gene Burg, on Lake Noquebay by Crivitz, WI. In addition, they traveled many times to European countries where a close friendship was formed with Ruth Karlheinz Engel and their family of Germany in 1970. Sylvin loved deer hunting with friends, Gene Burg, Duwayne, Dean, Greg Schneider, Gutreuter, and Anthony Mielke. At his lake home, friendships were made with special neighbors, Chuck Rose Buechler, Tom Sandy Koskovich, and Greg Karen Flak. Sylvin was an avid fan of the Packers and the Brewers.

Survivors include his longtime friend. Gene Burg of St. Joe; his sisters and brothers, Delores (Elmer) Petrie of St. Peter, Mary Ann (Gene) Birschbach of New Holstein, Patricia Birschbach of Mount Calvary, Judith (Edgar) Zingsheim of Oostburg, Donald (Joan) Steffes St. Joe, Joseph (Raye Marie) Steffes of Fond du Lac, and Vernon (Gail) Steffes of St.

Peter; a sister-in-law, Donna Steffes, of Fond du Lac; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his parents, Leo Katherine Steffes; his brother, Eugene Steffes; a brother-in-law, Henry Birschbach; and a special deer hunting member, Ronald Wiskow. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, April 25, 2013, at St. Isidore ParishSt. Joseph Church W620 County Road St.

Fond du Lac County Highway Commissioner Tom Janke said a memorial monument is being planned for a site along Pioneer Road the roadway assigned to former highway worker Dennis Roesler. Roesler lost his life in 2004 when he was struck in a work zone along Highway 41. After Pioneer Road? Janke said a segment of Pioneer Road will be redone from Hickory Street to Military Road and extend to Rogersville Road. The section will be constructed to urban standards, with curb and gutter and storm sewers.

A left-only center turn lane is being considered. Janke said design work would start this summer and could include a roundabout at Military Road or a much larger signalized intersection. As a part of National Crime Victims' Rights Week, which runs April 21-27, the Fond du Lac County Victim Witness Services will honor those in the area at a candlelight vigil at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Fond du Lac City County Government Center, 160 S. Macy St.

Emily Ciriacks, a Campbellsport High School student, will sing at the vigil, which is open to the community. This year's theme for the Crime Victims' Rights Week is New Challenges, New Solutions. The theme calls for a renewed commitment to serving all victims of crime to advance the cause of justice, according to a news release sent by Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney. "It has been a very challenging and sad year for the people in our community who have been affected by domestic violence, child abuse, sexual assault, vehicular homicide, drunk driving, identity theft, burglaries and many drug-related crimes, some that resulted in deaths from drug overdoses," Toney stated in the release. Thirty years ago, crime victims had no rights and were often denied an opportunity to speak at sentencing.

Scott St. at 4:30 a.m.

Sunday. Fire crews arrived to find a vehicle completely engulfed in flames adjacent to a residence. Residents were evacuated from the nearby home, while firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze, but not before the home suffered exterior damage. The fire was contained to the outside of the home, while the car was completely destroyed. No one was injured and residents were able to return to their home.

No information was given on the cause of the fire, which is currently under investigation. Assistance was provided by the City of Fond du Lac Police Department. Laconia High School's Advanced Treble Choir will sing the National Anthem at the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Game that starts at 12:05 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, at Fox Cities Stadium, 2400 N.

Casoloma Drive, Appleton. Laconia High School's FFA Chapter's Annual Day on the Farm will be held Wednesday, May 1. This year's host is Donru Farms, which is owned and operated by the Jim and Mary Gillett, Ben and Carrie Gillett, and Nathan Gillett families, and is located at N6231 Highway 26, Rosendale. The students will see dairy operations as well as farm machinery and may experience a hayride. Laconia Band Department will present its Spring Band Concert at 7:30 p.m.

Wednesday, May 1, in the Laconia High School auditorium, 301 W. Division St. Featured groups include the Concert Band, the Symphonic Band and the Jazz Ensemble. Seniors will be featured in a video salute, and band awards will be presented. The concert is free, but donations will be accepted.

The Laconia High School Choirs will present their Spring Concert, Good Riddance, at 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 6, in the Laconia High School auditorium, 301 W. Division St. Featured pieces for the pop concert include "Forget You," "I Gotta Feeling," "Penny Lane" and "Good Riddance." Brownie Troop 8530 is collecting pop tabs at Rosendale Primary and Rosendale Intermediate Schools and will deliver them on Saturday, May 11, to The Ronald McDonald House in Milwaukee. Constitution Contest Competition Laconia High School seniors Nicole Stahmann, Sabrina Schneider and Jonathon Opheim placed first, second, and third, respectively, in this year's Fond du Lac Elks Lodge 57's annual U.
